You might think it and you know I’m not afraid to say it. We want the financial freedom. We want the opportunities. We want the dream house, the investments, the flexibility, the ability to travel without checking our bank account every five minutes. We want the life that was promised to us “if we just work hard enough”.
What we don’t often realize is that the season before we receive our financial desires serves a purpose.
And I get it, especially in a world where results are highlighted; our pre-rich season makes us feel like we’re behind. Yet the more I observe my current circumstances, the more I understand this season is not a delay. It is preparation.
Because while wealth can change your circumstances, the pre-rich season changes you.

When you don’t have unlimited resources, you have to learn how to make the most of what you do have. You become creative. You learn how to solve problems. You learn how to stretch a budget, find alternatives, negotiate, research, and think outside the box.
The Caribbean cuisine is a perfect example of resourcefulness. Many of the dishes we know and love today were born out of necessity, creativity, and resilience. People learned how to use every part of an ingredient, how to combine simple foods into flavorful meals, and how to turn what was available into something that could feed an entire village.
These skills may not feel glamorous during your season of struggle, but they are incredibly valuable.
Anyone can spend money when they have it. Resourcefulness is what teaches you how to create opportunities before you do.
Many successful people didn’t become successful because they had every advantage. They became successful because they learned how to work with what they got.

The habits, mindset, and character we build during this season often become the very foundation that supports us when greater opportunities eventually arrive.

This might sound strange, but some opportunities only become visible during this stage of life.
Because you’re learning and growing, you’re actively searching for solutions.
During this season you’ll meet people who inspire you. You will begin putting yourself in rooms that expand your perspective and connect you with people and opportunities that can shape your future in ways you never expected.
Meeting the right people or being in the right space will become turning points.
The Pre-Rich Season Reveals Who You Are
The greatest benefit of all is that this season introduces you to yourself.
When things aren’t happening as quickly as we’d like, we often discover parts of ourselves that still need healing. We discover fears, doubts, limiting beliefs, and insecurities that would have followed us into wealth if they had remained hidden.
You tell yourself you want to start a business, but the moment it’s time to put yourself out there, you realize you’re terrified of being judged. I know it can feel frustrating to look at your goals and wonder when everything is finally going to happen.
I know it can feel like you’re working hard while everyone else seems to be moving faster.
But every season has a purpose.
The pre-rich season is where character is formed and clarity is gained.
Most people focus on what they don’t have during this season.
What if we started paying attention to what this season is giving us instead?
Because one day, when the opportunities arrive, when the income grows, and when the life you’ve been working toward begins to take shape, you may realize that the greatest gift wasn’t the wealth itself.
It was the person you became while building it.
