So, you’re on a spiritual healing journey or maybe thinking about starting one? You’ve probably heard a lot of wild ideas about what that looks like. Maybe people think you’re “enlightened” or somehow beyond stress, or that you just meditate your way through every problem. Newsflash: real spiritual healing isn’t that simple! Let’s talk about some of the biggest myths about the spiritual journey and what it can really be like, shall we.
1. You Don’t Need Therapy If You’re on a Spiritual Journey
Some folks assume that once you’re on a spiritual path, therapy is out the window. While actually for a lot of people, therapy and spiritual healing go hand in hand.

Therapy helps you unpack and understand things in a structured way, while spiritual practices bring a whole other level of depth and self-discovery.
Therapy and spirituality can create a powerful combo to help you really dig deep. Healing doesn’t have to be all or nothing—you can get support in multiple ways.
2. You Think You’re Better Than Everyone Else
We’ve all seen that stereotype of the “holier-than-thou” spiritual person who thinks they’re above everyone else. But true spiritual journey is humbling. And I mean “ego-crumbling, smack you right in the face”, kind of humbling. Real growth doesn’t make you feel better than others; it helps you feel more empathetic which can open you up for more connection to others. It’s about realizing that we’re all human, all learning, all evolving.
If someone’s on a real spiritual path, they’re probably working on empathy and humility, not superiority. Spiritual healing brings you closer to understanding and respecting everyone’s journey—including your own.
3. You’re Above Negative Emotions
People sometimes assume that once you’re on a healing journey, you’re all rainbows and positive vibes. That’s far from the truth. Healing means allowing yourself to feel sadness, anger, and even fear. These emotions don’t magically disappear, but spiritual practices can help you acknowledge them and process them in healthier ways.
Being on a spiritual path doesn’t mean you won’t feel low sometimes. That’s toxic positivity. It just means you’re working on understanding those emotions instead of running from them.
4. You’ve Got All the Answers Now
Another misconception is that being “spiritual” means you’ve figured life out. Ha! If only! Most people on a spiritual journey realize that the more they learn, the more they see just how much they don’t know. Healing is about being open to new lessons and keeping a childlike curiosity, not having all the answers.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. Stay curious, ask questions, and know it’s okay not to have it all figured out.
5. You’re Always Calm and Peaceful
Let’s clear this one up: healing doesn’t mean you’re some unbothered zen master who never stresses. People on a spiritual journey still have moments of frustration, doubt, and sometimes straight-up chaos.
You see this GIPHY below? That’s my brain at least 15 times a day. And not because of a stim, but because my inner teen is summoned and ready throw hands.

Spiritual practices can help you find peace, sure, but that doesn’t mean you’ll feel peaceful all the time.
Healing is about building resilience, learning how to find your way back to calm when things get rough, not about always being in a perfect state of peace. Life can be a messy heaux.
If you’re on your own spiritual journey, fuck what other people think it “should” look like. True healing isn’t about reaching some perfect version of yourself. It’s about growing, letting yourself feel all the feels, and finding what works for you. Embrace the process, stay open, and remember: this path is yours to walk, one step at a time.
