Did you know that your throat chakra, is the energetic center of truth, clarity, and self-expression. When this chakra is open, speaking up becomes one of your most powerful tools. Whether you’re voicing your boundaries, asking questions, or simply sharing your story, your voice becomes a tool for your truth. And in a world that constantly tries to quiet us, that’s revolutionary.
I’ve never been one to keep my mouth shut. Growing up, I was quick with questions, opinions, snapbacks… My mouth would run faster than Usain Bolt. But I learned early on the hard way that not everyone liked that. I was told, more times than I can count, that my attitude aka my mouth was a problem. Especially by men. And yeah, I got into trouble…It affected me in such a way that I started to close myself off more out of fear of the consequences. Until I realized that my word is literally my power, and no one’s gonna take that for me. I have something to say and I’ m going to run that shit.
Speaking Up Is Imperative For Our Health
It’s not just about being heard. It’s also about staying healthy. Research shows that stress and trauma – especially the kind that Black women carry – can contribute to autoimmune diseases like lupus. According to the Lupus Foundation of America, trauma and chronic stress can increase the risk of autoimmune disease. Black women are disproportionately affected, and researchers believe that internalized stress and suppressed emotion play a huge role.
Staying silent when we’re hurting or suppressing what we really want to say doesn’t just mess with our spirit. It starts messing with our body too.
Why Now Is the Time to Open the Throat Chakra
We’re living in a time where so much is happening. The world feels loud, overwhelming, and at times suffocating. That’s why it’s so important -not just for us, but for the next generation- that we activate our throat chakras. Our voices are tools, weapons, medicine. We cannot afford to let anyone silence us, especially not now.
How to Open the Throat Chakra

- Practice affirmations and mindful communication, like saying: “I speak my truth” or “My voice matters.”
- Chant “HAM” for 5–10 minutes daily to resonate with the throat center.
- Practice gentle neck stretches, like side-to-side tilts and chin tucks.
- Sing, hum, or scream into your pillow- release what’s been trapped in your throat.
- Journal without self-editing: just let it flow.
What Happens When You Don’t
When the throat chakra is blocked, the effects can ripple out in every area of your life. You may find it hard to express yourself clearly or honestly. You might experience anxiety, tension in your neck and jaw, chronic sore throats, or even thyroid issues. You may also feel a deep frustration or sadness from not being able to show up fully.
As mentioned earlier, it can trigger physical symptoms; especially if you’re carrying trauma. Emotionally, it can lead to people-pleasing, passive-aggression, or self-doubt. That’s why it’s not just important to open the throat chakra: it is necessary.
Don’t Be Like Me, Do Better
I’ve allowed myself to be silenced and some of the consequences mentioned earlier? I’ve experienced them. I was fortunate enough that physically all I got to experience is an RSI and a burnout, as I’ve witnessed firsthand how else it can affect your physical health. However, mentally…It’s still a work in progress. I allowed myself to be silenced and adopted a sense of self-doubt that wasn’t mine. Fortunately, my inner circle provides a safe space that continuously stimulates to speak my mind. And of course…This blog -a big slice of mine- where I can let it out!

Opening your throat chakra is not just about speaking louder. It’s about speaking truthfully, unapologetically, and with purpose. It’s about refusing to let this world define what you can and cannot say. For us, black women especially, this is a deep, necessary kind of healing. Don’t let anyone mute your magic. We’ve got a lot to say, and we might piss off a lot of people, but it’s about fucking the time the world hears it.
